Favorite Apps

The other day I asked the children what their favorite apps are on the iPad. They were so excited to help me with this list. Many wanted me to share with you so you could put them on their device at home. Great idea kids! Here are the favorites, in no particular order. :) Have fun! 1st Grade Math Interactive Telling Time Motion Math Teach Me: 1st Grade Stack the States Little Bird Tales Doodle Buddy Skip Math Math Heroes

Math is magic in First Grade! More to come about what big things these children are learning in Math...This is something the children will do soon. Looking forward to sharing how it goes!

We Love Our Eighth Grade Friends! One of the most special things we implement at Woodland is the partnership between the First Grade and Eighth Grade students. Here are some pictures of their first meeting and you can see the joy on their faces. The First Graders act like it is Christmas morning when the big kiddos come eat snack with us. It is amazing to see the bond that is created and one that will last for a lifetime with some. Our Eighth Grade boys and girls are great role models to the younger ones and it is special to witness. Before we know it, these First Grade boys and girls will be in Eighth Grade making memories with their little buddies!

Bubbles! The children explored bubbles with the Thinking Routine of See, Think, Wonder. I wanted to do this first to see what they physically saw, what they thought about bubbles, and what they wonder. Bubbles are someing that a child experiences at an early age, maybe as early as the toddler years. My goal was for them to experience bubbles with the understanding of how bubbles are formed as well as to never stop having fun while learning! You might be asking, "How does this tie into the curriculum in First Grade?" Well, it does! The reading curriculum that we use at Woodland is Superkids. There is a nonfiction component to the reading that correlates with the skills that we are learning. Each unit, we make a social studies or science connection with the reading. The correlation for this particular event was from a fiction story about a character floating away on a big bubble and how the problem was solved. Jessica Twinkle was the character who was in a pickle because she was stuck on a big bubble. Do you see the spelling pattern we learned about... (-le) ? This brought us to the non fiction text "Bubbles". We thought why not make giant bubbles with Dr. Amazing and never stop having fun while learning!

Grandparent's Day is one of the busiest and best days at Woodland. We get to brag on these smart, sweet, and hard working students to the people that love them so much and they agree with all the wonderful things we say! Thank you to all the grandparents and special friends that make it fun for the children!
