Self Portraits: I always love these drawings. Can you find your child?

We have started implementing the use of laptops in First Grade. The children were given a tutorial on how to turn on and off the computer and the "do's and dont's" of working with a computer: no food or drink near, gentleness all around, and staying seated with their computer. They did great. The students go to a custom made "symbaloo" that has Internet sites for them to go to that pertain to certain skills. To get to my symbaloo, go to http://www.symbaloo.com/mix/mrssmythesfirstgrade. Have them practice the "BASE TEN BLOCKS" activity. They should be able to tell you where that is on the symbaloo, as we have worked on it several times.

What do you think happens during Literacy Workstations? Well, a lot takes place! The children are using self-control, reading, writing, working together, spelling, integrating technology and so much more. I hope this gives you a snapshot of how active learning takes place. What a lukcy teacher am I to have such well behaved students. This allows them to learn together and for them to learn in small groups! Way to go First Graders!

What a great week we had this first week of FIRST GRADE! These children have my heart already and do wish times like these could be frozen in time. Before we know it, they will be moving on to other adventures past 1st Grade. Here's to a great school year.
